The clinical application of Filmarray respiratory panel in children especially with severe respiratory tract infections

Abstract Background Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are the common diseases in children and routine detection methods frequently fail to identify infectious pathogens especially for viruses. The Filmarray respiratory panel (FARP) can reliably rapidly viruses bacteria pathogens. This study is evaluate performance clinical significance of FARP children. Methods Children diagnosed with RTIs pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) were enrolled this study. Nasopharyngeal secretion (NPS) samples these collected assay 17 microbiological performed. Clinical data all patients was also evaluated. Results A total 90 into 58 (64.4%) positive 13 by FARP, 18 being detected multiple-virus (31.3%, 18/58). Human rhinovirus/enterovirus (21.0%%, 17/58) predominant pathogen, followed adenovirus (18.5%). Higher proportions various identified infant toddler (0–2 years) groups human mostly virus. Adenovirus group aged 3–5 years, but only three including M.pneumoniae , syncytial virus, found age (6–14 years). Among patients, significant differences antibiotic prescription use glucocorticoid between single-organism-positive multi-organism-positive ( P < 0.05). We evaluated the performance characteristics of the FilmArray respiratory panel and the eSensor respiratory viral panel on clinical and spiked lower respiratory tract specimens (LRTS).
